China Open: Stuart Bingham makes 147 break while Neil Robertson beats Mei Xi Wen

Former world champion Stuart Bingham made a 147 maximum break when beating Peter Ebdon 6-3 in the second round of the China Open.

The maximum was the fifth of Bingham's professional career and came in frame seven, a wonderfully constructed break that will be remembered as much for its apparent simplicity as anything else, Bingham keeping the white on a string with some exemplary cue-ball control.

Despite this, Bingham still had to negotiate a tricky final cut-back black before he took the colours with aplomb, landing top side of the blue and then negotiating pink and black with his customary coolness.

The match had been closely contested up until that point, Ebdon giving as good as he got, but Bingham, spurred on by his maximum break, dominated thereafter to book his place in the next round.

Robertson stands firm

In a week of shock results, Neil Robertson overcame little-known Mei Xi Wen 6-3 to progress to the third round.

A host of big names have already fallen by the wayside this week, including Judd Trump, Mark Selby and John Higgins, but Robertson maintained his excellent run of form with a professional, if not flawless, display.

The Australian actually found himself behind early in the match but rallied strongly after the mid-session interval and closed out the contest in good style as he looks to add to the World Open and Welsh Open titles he has claimed already this season.

Wilson sent packing

Kyren Wilson's recent dip in form continued as he was beaten 6-4 by Rod Lawler while Scott Donaldson got the better of David Gilbert 6-3.

Other names in the hat for the next round are Jack Lisowski, Anthony McGill, Luca Brecel and Sam Craigie.
