ON THIS DAY IN SPORT
1913: Leeds became the first rugby league team to score 100 points when they beat Coventry 102-0.
1924: England played their first international at Wembley, drawing 1-1 with Scotland. Their first goal at the new stadium was scored by Billy Walker.
1930: Wilf Rhodes became the oldest man to play in a Test match for England at the age of 52 years and 165 days. The match, against the West Indies at Kingston, Jamaica, was Rhodes' 58th and final Test.
1941: England's World Cup-winning captain Bobby Moore was born. He played for his country a then-record 108 times and skippered the national side on 90 occasions. He captained West Ham to FA Cup glory at Wembley in 1964, the European Cup Winners' Cup the following season and led Sir Alf Ramsey's side to triumph over West Germany in 1966. He died in February 1993 following a long battle against cancer.
2000: Portsmouth striker Steve Claridge was fined £900 by the Football Association for placing a bet on his team's 3-0 Division One win against Barnsley at Fratton Park.
2001: Chesterfield were docked nine points by the Football League disciplinary panel for financial irregularities while they were top of Division Three. They were found guilty of eight breaches of regulations and fined £20,000.
2004: Brian Lara regained the individual Test score world record on his way to an unbeaten 400 against England in the fourth Test at Antigua. He became the first player to hold the individual Test innings record twice.
2010: Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor announced he was to retire from international football after he was caught up in the attack on the Togo team bus at the African Nations Cup in Angola. Adebayor returned to national team duty in November 2011.
2013: Leeds United appointed Brian McDermott as their new manager.
2015: Jordan Spieth won the Masters at Augusta by thee shots ahead of Englishman Justin Rose.
2016: England Test batsman James Taylor was forced to retire at the age of 26, because of a ''very serious'' heart condition. Taylor, who played for England in their most recent Test against South Africa at Centurion three months previously, had seven caps.
