The NBA is in talks with Disney World Resort in Florida over plans to resume the season at a single location in July.
Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex has been earmarked as "for games, practices and housing".
No matches have been played since March 11 when the regular season was halted because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Milwaukee Bucks currently top the Eastern Conference, with LA Lakers top of the Western Conference.
The United States currently has the highest number of coronavirus fatalities of any country in the world, with more than 96,000 deaths.
"The NBA, in conjunction with the National Basketball Players Association, is engaged in exploratory conversations with The Walt Disney Company about restarting the 2019-20 NBA season in late July at Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Florida as a single site for an NBA campus for games, practices and housing," said NBA spokesperson Mike Bass added.
"Our priority continues to be the health and safety of all involved, and we are working with public health experts and government officials on a comprehensive set of guidelines to ensure that appropriate medical protocols and protections are in place."
