Philip Rivers reflects on 13 years at San Diego

Philip Rivers has said not winning a title is his only regret in his 13 years at San Diego Chargers.

And, in an emotional speech at the San Diego Hall of Champions dinner on Tuesday night the veteran quarterback says he will continue to fight for for Super Bowl ring now the team has relocated and become the Los Angeles Chargers.

Rivers was drafted in the first round of the 2004 NFL draft by the New York Giants but traded to San Diego, where he has spent his whole career.

The 35-year-old has been fantastic for the Chargers, going to six Pro Bowls, and he led the team to a first play-off win since 1994 en route to the 2007 AFC Championship Game.

However, a trip to the Super Bowl proved a step too far and the Chargers have been uprooted to LA after a disappointing 2016 campaign.

And Rivers spoke about his 13 years in San Diego at a dinner to honour retired Chargers offensive lineman Nick Hardwick.

"It really was special over the last decade," said Rivers. "The only regret I have is not winning it all while we were here.

"It's something we always wanted to do and get done for this community and for our team. It has been very special to be a San Diego Charger and I hope that you can always see me as that.

"I know it'll be different, but just know that I'll play like crazy and fight like crazy as a Los Angeles Charger, just like I did for you guys.

"I know y'all can respect and understand that. But I hope you also know that I will always be playing for San Diego as well."
