Odell Beckham Jr: New York Giants make receiver best paid in the NFL

The New York Giants have made Odell Beckham Jr the highest paid wide receiver in the NFL after signing him on a five-year extension that could be worth up to $95 million.

The 25-year-old has been one of the most exciting receivers in the NFL since making his league debut, with his trademark one-handed catches making him a household name.

Beckham had been looking for a contract extension for some time and he’s now signed with the Giants until 2023 under the terms of his big-money new deal, which will reportedly earn him a guaranteed $65m.

The contract has a higher annual salary than the one Pittsburgh’s Antonio Brown is on and a higher guaranteed package than Tampa Bay’s Mike Evans ($55m), but the Giants believe Beckham is worth every penny.

"We got him until he's 108," joked Giants GM Dave Gettleman. "I never worried whether or not we would get it done.

“I'm pleased, because the litmus test for a contract is that neither side is ticked off before the ink can dry, and neither side should be ticked off. It's a very fair deal."

Beckham delighted with new Giants deal

Beckham, who was the fastest player to record 200 catches and 3000 yards in NFL history, missed the pre-season but could now be on the field for the team’s season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The 12th overall pick of the 2014 draft was delighted to have signed the new lucrative contract with the Giants as he looks to build on his reputation as one of the top wideouts in the league.

"Honestly, I don't even know how to explain it," said Beckham. "I don't know if it's a relief, I don't know - it's a combination of everything. You've worked all your life to get to this point and it's finally here.

"I knew that it would get done; it just was a matter of when. And I'm just so happy that it is finally done now.”
