Alejandro Canizares and Marc Warren among those to earn European Tour cards

Alejandro Canizares earned medallist honours as 27 players secured European Tour cards after a six-round marathon at Qualifying School.

With places on the European Tour available for the top 25 and ties at Lumine Golf Club, a group of eight players scraped through by a single shot on 16-under with a further nine missing out by the narrowest of margins.

There was no such drama for Canizares, the two-time European Tour winner who shot 66-64 over the final two rounds to reach 24-under and share top spot on the leaderboard with South Africa's Zander Lombard.

Canizares is given medallist honours on account of his superior final round but for both it was a case of a job well done.

As European Tour experience proved key, Jeff Winther and Romain Langasque both finished in the top-five with Niklas Lemke, Clement Sordet and Bernd Ritthammer inside the top 10.

Scott Gregory, the youngster who shot 92 in the US Open earlier this summer, capitalised on a third-round 62 to finish 11th while Louis de Jager was among those to star on Thursday, a final-round 65 enough to see him join the growing South African contingent on the European Tour.

Warren finished alone in 19th, picking his way through the back having been well back at halfway, with Gavin Moynihan and Ben Evans among those doing the bare minimum.

Joseph Dean's late run came up a shot short after a bogey two holes from the finish while a birdie-par-eagle finish for Christian Braeunig proved just short of what was required, a double-bogey at the 15th hole ultimately his undoing.
