Paul Di Resta to stay as Williams' reserve driver

Paul di Resta will continue as reserve driver for the Williams team this season.

The Scot, who is also a TV pundit, will provide back-up for Felipe Massa, who went back on his decision to retire, and 18-year-old Canadian rookie Lance Stroll.

Di Resta made his F1 debut for Force India in 2011 and went on to make 58 starts before leaving at the end of 2013.

He has since been combining television work with a drive in the German Touring Car Championship (DTM) - Di Resta finished fifth overall for Mercedes Benz last year, winning one race at the opening round at Hockenheim.

"I am delighted to remain at Williams as reserve driver for the 2017 season," said Di Resta.

"I'm looking forward to getting to grips with the controls and procedures of the FW40 and understanding the new regulations.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank Claire [Williams] and everyone at Williams for their continued support in being part of the team."

Deputy team principal Claire Williams added: "It's great for us to retain someone with Paul's experience in the team.

"His extensive Formula One knowledge will once again be invaluable, especially with new regulations in place for the 2017 season.

"Paul has been a great asset to the team over the past year and it is great that we will be able to continue working with him again in 2017."
