Ross Barkley hit by injury blow

Ross Barkley will miss the start of the season after having an operation on his damaged groin.

Barkley had surgery on Tuesday on the injury which kept him out of Everton's pre-season trips to Tanzania and the Netherlands.

Everton expect their England midfielder to miss four weeks, ruling him out of the opening Premier League game against Stoke and the club's upcoming Europa League qualifier.

Barkley is in the final year of his deal and wants to leave Goodison Park this summer, but Tottenham have so far failed to match Everton's valuation.

Spurs are 2/7 favourites with Sky Bet to sign the midfielder and he's 5/2 to remain at Goodison once the transfer window slams shut.

Meanwhile, Everton defender Ramiro Funes Mori is expected to miss a minimum of six to nine months.

Argentina international Funes Mori, 26, suffered a torn meniscus while on international duty in March and has now gone under the knife again in Barcelona, meaning he will miss most of the 2017-18 season.
