Kevin Nolan backed into favourite for a return to Notts County

Kevin Nolan has been backed into the new favourite to become the next manager of Sky Bet League Two side Notts County.

The Magpies are on the hunt for a new manager following the sacking of Harry Kewell, who held the position for just ten weeks. He won three of the 14 games in charge at the club, conceding at least four goals on three separate occasions.

Crawley, the club Kewell left to take up the role at Meadow Lane, currently sit nine points above Notts in the standings.

Kewell replaced Nolan after a change at the end of August following a six-game winless run, but he now finds himself as the 13/8 favourite to make a sensational return to Meadow Lane.

Under his guidance, Notts made the play-offs last season but were beaten by eventual winners Coventry over two legs. Nolan posted a 42% win ratio during his 18-month spell in charge.

In his latest update regarding the vacancy, chairman Alan Hardy told the club website "I am pleased to say I have now shortlisted three strong candidates to attend second interviews for the vacant manager’s position at Meadow Lane.

"All three made excellent first impressions, demonstrating extensive experience and huge enthusiasm for the role.

"I look forward to meeting them all again to discuss things in more detail and hope to make an appointment later this week."

Previous favourite Neal Ardley has since drifted out to 5/1, while Paul Heckingbottom and Paul Hurst find themselves towards the top of the list following reports that they have both been considered.
