Injury blow for Giuseppe Rossi

Celta Vigo striker Giuseppe Rossi is set to be sidelined for at least six months after suffering another serious knee injury, the Galician club have announced.

The 30-year-old Italy international, who is on loan from Fiorentina, sustained his latest injury heartache during the first half of Sunday's 2-0 home defeat to Eibar.

A club statement on Monday read: "The medical tests taken by Giuseppe Rossi reveal that the Celta player has torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his left leg.

"The player will need to undergo an operation and will be out for at least six months."

Rossi, who scored a hat-trick for Celta in their previous home match against Las Palmas, has been plagued by injuries during a career that has seen him play for the likes of Manchester United, Villarreal, Newcastle and Parma.

Among the most serious have been two anterior cruciate ligament injuries in his right knee while at Villarreal, leading him to miss almost two seasons between 2011 and 2013.
