Fantasy Football: Kieran Trippier or Kyle Walker?

Matthew Temple-Marsh looks at whether Kieran Trippier now offers more appeal than Kyle Walker for Sky Sports Fantasy Football managers.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino selected Walker as his first-choice right-back, starting 31 Premier League games last season, until Trippier stole his place at the back end of the campaign, starting in key clashes against Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.

Walker was a key member in Tottenham's dominant defence, a backline that conceded only 26 goals all season long, earning him a £9.5m price tag, the ninth highest for a defender in the game.

The pacey full-back enjoyed his best season in a Spurs shirt, helping keep 14 clean sheets as they conceded few goals than any other side, making him the sixth highest scoring defender in Sky Fantasy Football last year and securing him a place in the PFA Team of the Year.

Trippier was more of a squad player, initially playing predominantly in cup competitions and, just like many of his team-mates, ceasing the opportunities provided by Pochettino.

Premier League chances followed and again he excelled, providing five assists from six starts and as many substitute appearances, remarkably matching the assist tally Walker despite playing over 2,000 minutes less.

However, the real appeal for bosses comes with his price tag being just £8.1m, less than Southampton's Ryan Bertrand.

Trippier is well known for his attacking prowess as a full-back, and Burnley fans will fondly remember his 2013/14 campaign when he provided a remarkable 14 assists as they secured promotion to the Premier League.

Next season is the perfect opportunity for Trippier consolidate his position as not only Tottenham's number one right-back but also among the Premier League's best, rewarding fantasy bosses in turn.

Walker, on the other hand, has already proved his quality at the top level and has superior defensive stats, contributing 2.2 tackles and 1.2 interceptions per game, a huge difference to Trippier's 1.4 tackles and 0.6 interceptions.

However, Walker will also be relying of defensive improvements from Manchester City, who conceded 13 more time than Spurs last term.

The 27-year-old will also have to adapt to a new system, potentially reverting back to a back four without the protection offered by Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama, putting greater pressure on his defensive abilities.

Trippier, on the other hand, looks set to dominate in Spurs' five at the back system, which will allow him the freedom to roam up and down the right flank.

Both look quality options for but, at £1.4million less, Trippier is sure to prove one of the most popular picks for Sky Sports Fantasy Football bosses.
