Crystal Palace v Arsenal: Our prediction
Our Nick Hext writes... Arsenal are odds-on favourite to win at Crystal Palace on Monday night but there’s nothing to suggest that the Gunners can be trusted to collect a three-point haul.
Arsene Wenger’s men have only managed to beat non-league Sutton in their previous five matches on their travels and produced an abysmal display in their 3-1 defeat at West Brom last time away from the Emirates.
Craig Dawson scored two of the goals for the Baggies from corners as the Gunners were outfought and outperformed by a side set up by Tony Pulis to target their weakness.
Sam Allardyce is more than capable of coming up with a similar gameplan and Palace, despite losing 3-1 against Southampton in midweek, must still be on a pretty big high after claiming a surprise 2-1 victory at Premier League leaders Chelsea just over a week ago.
The Eagles also take on the Gunners on the back of consecutive 1-0 wins at Selhurst Park against Middlesbrough and Watford but their poor home record against sides from the top of the table is enough to put me off an interest in a surprise success.
Palace have lost all six of their home games against teams from the top eight in the Premier League this season (they were also defeated by Manchester City at Selhurst Park in the FA Cup) and, despite the many problems for Wenger in recent months, they are still encountering an Arsenal side towards the pinnacle of the division.
I’m instead going to look to the home side’s star striker Christian Benteke at over 2/1 to find the back of the net.
The Belgium international has netted in back-to-back matches to end a five game wait to get on the scoresheet and he scores his goals in batches.
Benteke has bagged 16 goals for club and country this season. Five of those strikes came in a four-game spell at the end of September and start of October and he also enjoyed a spell of five goals in five matches between the conclusion of November and December’s opening contests.
Two in two is a good way to start another scoring run, especially against a club that is fielding their third-choice goalkeeper and has let in 18 goals in their last eight outings.
Ten of those goals did come in the resounding Champions League exit at the hands of Bayern Munich and Arsenal were cheered by the 3-0 win over West Ham in midweek finally adding to clean sheets against non-league opposition Sutton and Lincoln since the middle of February.
The temptation is also to look to go high on goals but the prices aren’t inviting enough.
Over 3.5 goals have been scored in five of Arsenal’s last six outings but only one of Palace’s previously mentioned defeats against the top eight has finished above that mark.
I’m instead going to stick with Benteke in a match that can see Palace cause Arsenal plenty of problems if they get things right.
Prediction: Crystal Palace 2-2 Arsenal
Crystal Palace v Arsenal: Team news
Crystal Palace will be without midfielder Yohan Cabaye as their injury-hit squad prepare to host Arsenal at Selhurst Park on Monday.
Cabaye was substituted at half-time during Wednesday's 3-1 defeat at Southampton after picking up a calf strain and boss Sam Allardyce has confirmed the Frenchman is unavailable.
Scott Dann, Pape Souare, James Tomkins, Fraser Campbell and Connor Wickham are also out, with Patrick van Aanholt likely to be absent as well.
James McArthur (back) could return, though, while Joe Ledley is available after missing the Saints defeat as his wife was giving birth.
Third-choice goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez will again deputise for Arsenal.
The 24-year-old stepped in for the win over West Ham with both Petr Cech (calf) and David Ospina (back) sidelined, and neither will be fit for the game at Selhurst Park.
Laurent Koscielny (Achilles) remains absent as does Lucas Perez (thigh), while Francis Coquelin returns after missing the midweek win due to personal matters.

Crystal Palace v Arsenal: Manager quotes
Sam Allardyce (Crystal Palace)
On tackling: "Well, we don't coach tackling any more because it's very difficult to get away with even a good tackle today.
"We train players to intercept and stay on their feet rather than go around and tackle them like they used to.
"We have to temper that side of it down because it's too easy for a player top get booked now and if that player continues to get booked then you lose him for two games.
"We've got him (Wenger) complaining at times about the physical aspect. (But) it's difficult to bully a team now because of the laws of the game and the protection the players rightly get. Even a good tackle could get you a card because it's said to be over-aggressive.
"I will never accept that in my entire life, that a player who takes the ball and then takes the man is over-aggressive, it's just nonsense.
"But unfortunately FIFA brought that rule in, the referees have to try and assess what is over-aggressive but I don't think you can bully a team, perhaps like the earlier days when I first started as a manager."
On injuries: "Looking at the injury list this morning, having got through most of March and into beginning of April when the team did not need to be changed, apart from tactically, we're now faced with a long list of injuries.
"Patrick van Aanholt, (Scott) Dann, (James) Tomkins, (James) McArthur, (Fraizer) Campbell, (Yohan) Cabaye picked up an injury, and then there's the long-term injuries to (Connor) Wickham, (Pape) Souare and Loic Remy.
"Hopefully the medical staff can work vigorously in the next two weeks to get them back on the pitch again."
Asked if Arsene Wenger should be making his plans for next season known, he said: "Not really, that's a conversation that the club has, not Arsene himself. The whole club decides if you're going to make an announcement or not, not just the manager."
On the protests against the Frenchman, he said: "It's the norm...today. It's what you have to accept across the board as a manager, that there will be criticism thrown your way at some stage if people think you're not achieving what you should achieve.
"We've all had it but we're tough enough to deal with it. He's been an outstanding manager in this league for 20-odd years so I'm sure he will be fighting with his players to put things right.
"And they had a very good victory last night, 3-0, which showed they bounced back and as always it will be a hugely tough game for us because of the quality of their players."
On why Crystal Palace are fancied to stay up: "Maybe the past experience that I've had in saving teams in this position and the quality of players we've seen over the last four games hitting their potential in terms of their performance.
"But it is a tough run-in and it's going to go down right to the wire I think.
"It's about who can hold their nerve (that) is normally the big key to success when the pressure is on you at this level. When you go into the single-figure game mark, when that bell starts ringing, the time is running out, you've got to be very brave and stand up and be counted in those situations to survive and be in the Premier League next year.
"I think eight points will be enough.
"I think it's important that we don't lose against Arsenal. It's not arguably that we've got the hardest run-in, we have got the hardest run-in, but we are in good form at the moment so hopefully that form will continue and the results will come with it."
Arsene Wenger (Arsenal)
On Theo Walcott: "Walcott has the quality, if you look at his career, he can respond to disappointment with good focus.
"He had a very bad injury and he came back. When you look at his career in 2006 he was in the World Cup and since he has not been - and we are in 2017 now.
"That is basically 11 years later and he has gone through very early high up and he is still there. That means these guys can deal with disappointment.
"He is a guy who cares and wants to do well, he has a huge level of focus. I looked at his numbers the other day, he has played wide since the start of the season and he has played 20 games and scored 10 goals in the Premier League.
"I was surprised (Walcott was dropped). But it is true for England now there is competition. Going forward, you have a young generation with (Jesse) Lingard, (Marcus) Rashford coming up. (Jack) Wilshere was left out, Walcott was left out and they are usually people who are always in there."
On Alexis Sanchez: "I believe that basically he wants to stay at the club and it's down to finding an agreement with his agent
."I think the players first have to see are they are happy to the club and after (that) most of the time it's down to finding an agreement, but the finances are involved in it, yes."
When asked whether an announcement on his future would come from himself or the club, he said: "From the club."
Another question followed asking there were any pre-requisites in any potential new deal to which he replied: "No, nothing to add to that."
On pre-season plans: "Of course (plans are in place for pre-season). No (that does not suggest he will stay), it's just that I do my job to plan for the future of the club.
"I cannot not tell you now (if a decision will come before the end of the season) because I don't know, I am focused on our next game."
