Wayne Rooney profile for Sky Sports Fantasy Football

Our Amee Ruszkai explains why ignoring Wayne Rooney would be a huge mistake for Sky Sports Fantasy Football bosses.

Wayne Rooney's return to boyhood club Everton is one of the stories of the transfer window, but prepare to be proven wrong if you think the move was purely a nostalgic one.

Thirteen years after leaving, Ronald Koeman has brought Rooney back to help replace the goals of Romelu Lukaku, who has moved in the other direction to instantly become a Sky Sports Fantasy Football favourite.

With a World Cup on the horizon, the 31-year-old will be keen to get back into the England picture, but does he have what it takes to have a successful second stint on Merseyside?

A difficult last season has seen Rooney's stock drop to £10.4million, but a closer look at the stats suggest he could well be worth that.

Everton's attack was led almost single-handedly by Lukaku last season, who was involved in a goal every 105 minutes after scoring 25 and providing six assists.

The next highest scorer on the books was Ross Barkley with five - the same amount as Rooney managed in almost half the number of minutes played.

Barkley's eight assists was a better return than Rooney's five, but still meant he was involved in a goal every 223 minutes - compared to the former Manchester United man's average of every 154.

Only Lukaku had a more frequent goal involvement in Everton's entire squad than Rooney, with Kevin Mirallas third after scoring or assisting every 208 minutes.

Rooney's arrival suggests Koeman does not want the same over reliance on a one-goal outlet this season, and the striker's stats show he can help ease the burden when given the chance.

The manager will be aware of the demands of the Europa League and the need for rotation, and Rooney will be keen to take advantage of extra minutes.

Regardless of whether he's a regular starter or a substitute, it's clear the former United man fits the attacking bill Koeman is building - creating a chance every 45 minutes last season.

Add to that the fact that Rooney completed more passes per 90 minutes then Tom Davies, Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman last season, and his composure on the ball will be welcomed to the team.

The arrival of Sandro Ramirez and the potential of Ademola Lookman means he will have his work cut out for him for a starting place, but Rooney's ability to pick up points Sky Sports Fantasy Football team should not be doubted.
