Alex Hales deemed fit enough to join up with England

Record-breaking opener Alex Hales is to join England on their tour of the West Indies after a scan confirmed he has sufficiently recovered from a broken hand.

Hales will not be added to the squad officially as yet, but will continue his rehabilitation on tour after flying to Antigua on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old was unavailable for selection in the original squad for three one-day internationals, having suffered the injury in the outfield during last month's tour of India.

But Hales, scorer of England's ODI record individual score of 171 against Pakistan at Trent Bridge last summer, will rejoin his international team-mates three days before the first match against West Indies.

Hales himself tweeted: "Antigua tomorrow. Can't wait to get back amongst it!"

Shortly afterwards, an England and Wales Cricket Board statement confirmed his imminent arrival in the Caribbean.

It read: "Alex Hales arrives tomorrow evening local time.

"He will continue his rehab with us until such time the medical and coaching teams deem he is fit enough to join the squad officially."
