Sussex wicketkeeper-batsman Michael Burgess will move to Warwickshire on loan for the rest of the season before joining the midlands county on a permanent two-year deal.
Burgess has amassed 1,440 runs at a healthy average of 38.91 in 28 first-class matches but faced a struggle to break into Sussex's first XI.
Sussex retain the option to recall the 24-year-old this year for Specsavers County Championship fixtures only, while he would be ineligible for any potential meeting between the Sharks and Birmingham Bears in the 2019 Vitality Blast.
Paul Farbrace, Warwickshire's sport director, believes Burgess can bolster their batting in the limited-overs formats.
The former England assistant said: "He boasts a very impressive strike rate in the T20 game and his ability to clear the ropes could be game-changing.
"Whilst we still have one of the best wicketkeepers in the country in Tim Ambrose, we believe that Michael can make an immediate impact in the white-ball game and, aged only 24, we have every confidence that he can enjoy a long and very successful career as a Bear."
Burgess, who has spent the last two years at Hove, added: "It's a huge opportunity for me to become a Bear.
"Warwickshire were very clear with me about their ambitions to build a squad that can compete for more silverware and I'm very excited to have committed until at least the end of 2021."
