Australia produce record chase to level ODI series with India

Peter Handscomb's maiden one-day international century and a blistering 84 not out off 43 balls from Ashton Turner lifted Australia to their highest one-day international chase in a series-levelling four-wicket win over India.

Australia slipped to 12 for two in pursuit of a towering 359 in Mohali but Usman Khawaja (91) and Handscomb (117) put on a 192-run stand to provide a platform for Turner to get his side over the line.

Turner was dropped twice as the tourists closed in on victory - achieved with 13 balls to spare - but his most telling let-off came on 38 when Rishabh Pant, deputising for the rested Mahendra Singh Dhoni, missed a stumping opportunity.

Turner took advantage in sizzling fashion as he thrashed five fours and six sixes in only his second ODI to help Australia take the five-match series to a decider in Delhi on Wednesday.

Earlier, Shikhar Dhawan had bludgeoned an ODI best 143 off 115 balls, putting on 193 with fellow opener Rohit Sharma (95), to carry India to a formidable 358 for nine after Virat Kohli had won the toss.

Kohli was seeking a third successive century but was caught behind for just seven in an innings where Australia paceman Pat Cummins took his first five-wicket haul in the 50-over format.
