Savannah Marshall: Eager to step up to latest challenge
Savannah Marshall won't get the chance to take on Hannah Rankin this weekend

Marshall vs Rankin off after Fury’s positive COVID test

Saturday’s world middleweight title showdown between Savannah Marshall and Hannah Rankin is off after Marshall’s trainer Peter Fury tested positive for COVID-19.

The news emerged after all fighters and their teams were tested ahead of the huge weekend show (live on Sky Sports Boxing and DAZN).

Both fighters were understandably disappointed, but also concerned for Fury’s health. For Marshall in particular the late cancellation is a bitter pill, after her first planned world title challenge in April had met a similar fate.

The Hartlepool ace (9-0) said on Twitter: “Gutted to say the least. Two world title fights cancelled due to COVID. Good news @peterfury is fit and well and @Team_Rankin doesn’t have to wait too long for her good hiding as we have asked for it to be rescheduled ASAP.”

Scot Rankin (9-4) meanwhile had similar sentiments to share.

“So gutted my @WorldBoxingOrg World Title Fight is off due to @peterfury testing positive for COVID. I wish Peter well and hope he recovers soon,” she said.

“@Savmarshall1 don’t go off the boil, keep the weight off and @EddieHearn do not let her off the hook! I want this fight, I win this fight!”

Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing say they will look to reschedule Marshall vs Rankin as soon as possible.

There were no other positive tests ahead of the big bill at the East of England Arena in Peterborough, which is topped by super-lightweight sensation Lewis Ritson taking on Miguel Vazquez
