Andy Murray tops the entry list for the US Open despite concerns over his fitness ahead of the final Grand Slam tournament of the season.
The world’s top 99 ranked players are all entered and they include former champions Murray, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. Stan Wawrinka is also due to return to defend the title he won last September.
However, like Murray, who is struggling with a long-term hip problem, both Wawrinka (knee) and Djokovic (elbow) have admitted the need to rest with some questioning whether they will compete at Flushing Meadows from August 28 to September 10.
Murray is currently the 9/2 third favourite with Sky Bet. he sits behind Federer (9/4) and Nadal (4/1) in the market but ahead of both Djokovic (5/1) and Wawrinka (12/1).
Murray's compatriots Kyle Edmund, Aljaz Bedene and Dan Evans are also on the entry list, although the latter is currently under a provisional suspension following a positive test for cocaine and seems highly unlikely to be in New York.
Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics, the world number 99, is the last man to gain automatic entry into the men’s draw.
Five players will compete using a protected ranking - Andreas Haider-Maurer, Thanasi Kokkinakis, John Millman, Dmitry Tursunov and Ricardas Berankis.
In the women’s draw, 99 of the top 105 are entered, led by new world number one Karolina Pliskova, a 7/1 shot.
Briton Johanna Konta (8/1) will also fancy her chances on her favourite hardcourt surface.
The most notable absentee will be reigning champion Serena Williams, who is currently pregnant and could give birth during this year’s tournament.
Mandy Minella also misses out due to pregnancy, while Laura Siegemund, Yaroslava Shvedova, Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Kristina Kucova all have long-term injuries.
American Julia Boserup is the last player to earn direct acceptance, while five women use their protected ranking to play.
The most high-proifle is former world number one Victoria Azarenka, who is Sky Bet's joint favourite at 6/1 alongside Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza.
Sloane Stephens, Anna-Lena Friedsam, Alja Tomljanovic and Sabine Lisicki are the others.
British number two Heather Watson comfortably makes the cut but Naomi Broady, currently ranked 110th, just misses out. Five more withdrawals would see her move into the main draw, otherwise she will have to go through qualifying which takes place the week before.
Both singles draws will be completed by 16 qualifiers.
