James Tedesco try wins State of Origin decider for New South Wales

James Tedesco's try 30 seconds from the end earned New South Wales a dramatic 26-20 win over Queensland in an epic State of Origin decider in front of a sell-out crowd of 82,565 at Sydney's ANZ Stadium.

The Maroons clawed back a 12-point deficit with two tries in the last 10 minutes from forwards Josh McGuire and Josh Papalii, both converted by debutant Ethan Lowe, to lock the scores at 20-20.

Then, with time fast running out, Tedesco finished off a break by winger Blake Ferguson to score his second try of the match and ensure a back-to-back series triumph for Brad Fittler's Blues.

Veteran half-back James Maloney gave New South Wales the lead with a sixth-minute penalty but the visitors scored the opening try through second rower Felise Kaufusi, who touched down a kick from Corey Norman.

Lowe added the conversion and then kicked a penalty to make it 8-2, but five minutes before half-time Blues prop Paul Vaughan forced his way over for a try and Maloney's goal levelled it.

Tedesco put his side back in front after 51 minutes and, when pacy hooker Damien Cook went over for a solo try, the game looked to be over with the home side leading 20-8.

However, McGuire powered his way through a tiring defence nine minutes from the end and skipper Daly Cherry-Evans got Papalii powering over to set up a tense finish, with man of the match Tedesco having the final say.
