Former Wigan forward Ryan Sutton has been given a new long-term contract with Canberra Raiders after making a success of his first season in the NRL.
Then-Wigan coach Shaun Wane expressed the view that Sutton was making the move too early in his career when he joined the Raiders on a two-year deal at the end of last season.
But Sutton, 24, quickly established himself in Ricky Stuart's side and, after being rewarded with a two-year contract extension, he says he has no wish to return to Super League.
"I set my sights on coming out to Australia and getting my foot in the door with the Raiders and I've been lucky enough to play more games than I expected in my first year," Sutton told the club's website.
"It's my goal now to keep getting better and better each year of this contract and hopefully establishing myself as an NRL player for the rest of my career."
Sutton's Canberra team-mate and fellow Englishman Elliott Whitehead has also extended his stay in the Australian capital until the end of the 2022 season.
The former Bradford and Catalans Dragons second-rower has been one of the Raiders' most consistent performers since arriving at the club for the beginning of the 2016 season.
"I've absolutely loved my time at the Raiders so far, so to extend for another two seasons is fantastic and I know we're on the right path to achieving success," Whitehead said.
"I've seen this squad grow into something special over the past few seasons and I really wanted to make sure I stayed in Canberra and be a part of what we're building. I didn't want to go anywhere else."
Whitehead is sure to be included in Great Britain coach Wayne Bennett's squad for the end-of-season tour to New Zealand and Papua New Guinea, along with his Raiders' team-mates John Bateman and Josh Hodgson, and Sutton is hoping to join them.
Canberra's English contingent will be increased to five in 2020 with the arrival of another Wigan and England player, George Williams.
