Anita Chambers picks out the best bets on Tuesday's Saint-Cloud card including the Christophe Ferland-trained Fairmont.
Fairmont appeals as one of the better bets in the feature at Saint-Cloud on Tuesday, the Prix de la Gloriette.
The Christophe Ferland-trained four-year-old is a dual winner, last getting his head in front just over a year ago, and has generally plied his trade in decent company, twice placing at Listed level.
A plus to his chance - and surely something of a pointer - is that Christophe Soumillon takes the ride for just the second time on the Orpen gelding, the first one having been victorious in a maiden at Chantilly in January last year.
Ferland and Soumillon have prospects of a double through Albir in the Prix de la Gaillarderie.
Formerly with Philippe Sogorb, the four-year-old has his first start for the Ferland team and interestingly comes back in trip to 10 furlongs.
Waahaat promises to take the beating in the Prix Nubienne.
A debut win over this course and distance in September saw him go on to a conditions event on the all-weather at Deauville, finishing strongly but just finding the line coming too soon with Bellanodine most determined in front.
It would be wrong to say the Jean-Claude Rouget yard is firing on all cylinders since the resumption of racing, but equally he has had a few winners so there is encouragement to be taken from that.
Plenty of interesting newcomers in the Prix Mississipian, with preference for Royaume Uni, a Galileo colt in the care of Andre Fabre for the Coolmore partners.
He will be ridden by Pierre-Charles Boudot, who has plenty of chances on the card, with the Gavin Hernon-trained National Service in the Prix Birum another to note.
The Elusive City gelding showed a good attitude in running out a fairly cosy winner first time up on the all-weather at Chantilly in December and the booking of Boudot suggests he is expected to progress again.
