Our guide to the action at Glorious Goodwood, featuring Man On The Spot previews and the Sky Bet offers.
Man On The Spot Verdicts for Saturday
1.50 Qatar Stewards' Sprint Handicap
Man On The Spot: Richard Fahey has four entries headed at the weights by George Bowen, who has run better than his finishing positions suggest since winning at Nottingham. The ground won't be a problem but stable companion The Wagon Wheel, who looked a potential pattern race sprinter at Chester, has never raced on anything but quick going. GOODWOOD CRUSADER was attempting a six-timer at Newmarket and didn't get the best of runs. He's won on good to soft ground and looks well drawn so is taken to return to winning ways. Rasheeq has run well on soft ground and a strike-rate of 1-15 doesn't do him justice while Manshood loves soft ground and is in top form though it's possible a draw on the wide outside isn't ideal in these conditions. Royal Brave's last four victories have been on much quicker going while the three-year-olds Scorching Heat and Six Strings face difficult tasks against older rivals. Ascot winner Lightning Charlie was well beaten on fast ground in the race a year ago when Stellarta was fourth though the latter has no form on this sort of ground.
2.25 Qatar Summer Handicap
Man On The Spot: Soldier In Action has been running well though on quicker ground over shorter while stable companion Jaameh has looked a bit high in the weights since completing a double over this trip. Platitude won a Listed contest over the track and trip in October though that was on fast ground while stablemate Shraaoh has only won on Tapeta. Another from the Stoute camp, Mainstream, tackles the trip for the first time but hasn't been stopping and this could be his distance. It's a long way from East Yorkshire for SAIGON CITY to travel but he went to Newmarket in May and landed a handicap over this trip on soft ground so a 5lb rise shouldn't prevent another big effort and he's handed the vote. Arch Villain was tailed off in this a year ago which wasn't his form as he scored over two miles at Ascot a few days later. He's won over the course and distance and goes well fresh so a long absence isn't a problem. My Reward beat Sir Chauvelin over two miles at Ripon before leading for a long way in the Northumberland Plate while Getback In Paris won here before finding Mount Moriah too strong at Ascot.
3.00 Qatar Gordon Stakes
Man On The Spot:
Mount Moriah could have his latest Ascot victory over Getback In Paris boosted in the previous race and he'll be happy on the going. Across Dubai has only run three times, scoring on Polytrack and fast going at Haydock and he'll need much more here, as will Jake's Hill, though the latter ran better than expected in Listed company at Sandown after an earlier maiden success there. Nottingham maiden winner CRYSTAL OCEAN finished a close third behind Permian in the Dante and occupied the same spot behind the winner and today's rival Khalidi in the King Edward VII at Ascot. He was run out of second place close home and this easier track can enable him to see off John Gosden's charge this time.
3.35 Qatar Stewards' Cup Handicap
Man On The Spot Hoof It won this in 2011 and the consolation race a year ago and was running as well as ever at the end of the last campaign. A pipe-opener at Hamilton will have put him straight and he can never be left out of calculations. Danzeno has a penalty for landing a heritage handicap at Ascot from today's rival Polybius, who is 5lb better off and must have a chance of reversing the places. PROJECTION finished a close fifth a year ago and has continued to go well in top sprints including when a close third in the Wokingham. He's won on ground with some give and has been lightly-raced so there should be some further progress in him and hopefully he won't be too be inconvenienced by a wide draw. Last year's Wokingham winner Outback Traveller didn't run quite as well this time around though that was only his second start of the campaign and he'll be ready for this. Ryan Moore's presence on Sir Dancealot, who won the Listed Rockingham Stakes at York in October, suggests his mount will attract support though he's never raced on anything like ground this soft.
4.10 Qatar EBF Stallions Maiden Stakes
Man On The Spot: BATHSHEBA BAY is drawn widest of all which doesn't look ideal though Ryan Moore should be able to get to the centre on Richard Hannon's charge, who just failed to hang on over this trip on good to soft at Sandown. Stable companion Rogue has looked in need of this longer trip in both starts at Newbury while Preacher Man was only headed close home by Curiosity at Ascot but was receiving 6lb and the winner was beaten here earlier this week. Trogon made a fair start at Sandown and should be better suited by today's going. Power of Darkness is one to keep an eye on while Capital Flight is a half-brother to six winners. Mark Johnston saddles a couple of newcomers with the Godolphin-owned Dee Ex Bee, who is related to three winners, possibly the best of the pair at this stage.
4.45 Qatar Handicap
Man On The Spot: Sir Titan has won a Wolverhampton maiden and a minor handicap at Windsor, the latter by a short-head, and this represents a leap in grade. Hugo Palmer has two runners with course and distance winner Aventinus perhaps the pick though he's another stepping up in class. Battered went up 9lb for winning on soft ground at York and he's been unable to cope but conditions are back in his favour and he's an obvious threat. TAAMOL (NAP) won a Listed contest on good to soft at Newmarket before finding Group 3 company too hot at Ascot. He looks to have the scope to improve again and can take care of Medahim, who won a similar grade handicap at Newmarket on fast going and is up 6lb.
5.20 Qatar Apprentice Handicap
Man On The Spot: YOU'RE HIRED goes well fresh as he showed last summer and has a course victory to his credit so he's given a tentative vote in a competitive heat despite a long absence. Rotherwick has gained reward for his consistency with two victories this summer though Interconnection, who he beat at Yarmouth last time, has enough pull in the weights to reverse the form. Fire Tree battled on well over slightly shorter at Ascot to complete a double and shouldn't be inconvenienced by the slightly longer trip or the going. It's a while since Spring Offensive won but he's invariably thereabouts at this sort of level and should be in the shake-up. Clifford Lee has been on board for both of Born To Be Alive's run and his mount makes his handicap debut after a facile victory in a maiden at Ayr. Storm King has won twice at Chester recently so this track should hold no terrors while Balmoral Castle looked on the way back behind Fire Tree at Ascot and though not the most consistent would have a chance at his best.
