Ian Ogg analyses the last 10 renewals of Sunday's Qipco 1000 Guineas at Newmarket and picks out the key statistics.
It's easy enough to put a line through a couple of the outsiders in the Qipco 1000 Guineas while all winners in the last decade had raced at least twice which is a negative for impressive maiden winner Talaayeb.
Thereafter it gets a little more complicated to reduce the short-list although last time out winning form is a strong statistic.
Fillies' Mile winner Rhododendron is a worthy favourite who bids to follow in the steps of brilliant stablemate Minding and provide Ryan Moore with a fourth success in six years.
Whether she is in the same class remains to be seen and it may be worth taking her on with Daban who had Unforgetable Filly and Poet's Vanity behind when winning the Nell Gwyn Stakes.
- Winners have been priced between 5/4 and 25/1 with seven returned at single figure SPs.
- Four favourites have been successful with a further two placed.
- Four winners were making their seasonal reappearance; three of the exceptions won their prep race.
- Nine winners had had between two and eight career starts; 2012 winner Homecoming Queen had run 13 times.
- No winner was unbeaten. Four had been beaten more than twice.
- Five winners had previously won a Group One.
- Seven winners had won at least a Group Three, two of the three exceptions hadn't previously run in a Group race.
- Seven winners had won their preceding start, the exceptions finished second, third & sixth.
- Four winners had already won over at least a mile.
