1720: It has never been a secret that Jose Mourinho likes an ‘end-product’ of a player, but is splashing the cash on Roma’s 29-year-old Radja Nainggolan or Chelsea's 28-year-old Nemanja Matic the right answer to Manchester United’s quest for a title challenge?
Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, Juan Mata to name a few. Figures Mourinho has discarded under his nose who have gone onto to have fruitful careers; and he could be about do the same.
The contrast in Mourinho’s management style to that of the man in charge across the city, Pep Guardiola, is the element of trust, having reaped rewards with his faith in Gabriel Jesus before reinvesting in promising 22-year-old Bernardo Silva.
Mourinho likes to know what he’s getting, a John Terry or Frank Lampard type of consistency, whereas Pep is more willing to give reign to a younger prospect, like John Stones or Gerard Pique for example.
The contrast of the two foes looks to be evident again this summer through their summer shopping baskets.
1550: There is a really terrible rumour currently floating around the world of transfer chat - a potential swap deal of Alexis Sanchez for Sergio Aguero.
Sanchez has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City this summer, which makes sense given he acted like a brat for the final quarter of last season as Arsenal missed out on Champions League qualification.
He also only has a year left on his contract so Arsene Wenger, who has plenty of ambitious targets in his sights including Alexandre Lacazette, could be forgiven (by any fans other than Arsenal’s) for retrieving some cash from the Chilean.
However, what makes absolutely no sense is the Aguero to Arsenal aspect.
Why on earth would he, at 29, want to swap a place with next season's Premier League favourites, where he is adored and certainly well remunerated, for Europa League football?
Suggestions that he fell out with Pep Guardiola have absolutely no substance, while he proved at the end of last season that he can play alongside Gabriel Jesus.
The Argentina star is 10/1 to join Arsenal this summer and if those odds tumble then we’ll certainly be jumping on the ‘to stay’ option.
1310: Sky Bet are reporting a surge of interest in Nemanja Matic completing a move to Manchester United, slashing the odds from 4/5 to 1/2 and then in to 1/10 following sustained interest.
The Serbian is now 11/2 to still be a Chelsea player come the close of the transfer window, with betting suspended on Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko arriving at Stamford Bridge.
Alex Sandro is another reported target of Antonio Conte’s and is now just 1/6 to join and 7/2 to stay with Juventus, but there’s no developments on the Romelu Lukaku front.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace have been backed in from 7/1 to 5/2 to land Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho ahead of Frank de Boer's impending appointment, although Leicester remain favourites to secure his services at 4/7.
1215: With reports suggesting this morning that Liverpool have expressed interest in French striker Kylian Mbappe, could Jurgen Klopp have handed the Reds' fiercest rivals their top target?
Liverpool’s step up in their interest for star forward Mbappe could spark Zinedine Zidane into action amid fears he may lose out on Real Madrid’s biggest prospective summer acquisition.
Recently re-elected president Florentino Perez has expressed his admiration for the Monaco man and fears of other clubs’ interest may be the necessary catalyst to put the merry-go-round’s wheels in motion.
With Alvaro Morata currently odds-on at 4/11 with Sky Bet to join Manchester United, the implications could be far greater than Madrid simply losing their Spanish forward.
Liverpool supposedly solidifying their interest in Mbappe, paired with the regulatory Financial Fair Play rules (FFP) taking a grip of Europe’s top spenders, a Morata departure could be the only solution in allowing a move to develop for Mbappe.
Tabloids have reported that it would take a £100m+ offer to pry Mbappe from the Champions League semi-finalists, but if Morata was to relocate to Manchester then the path could be clear financially for Zidane to pursue the 18-year-old.
1000: Sky Bet are reporting a rush of money for Bournemouth to secure the services of Nathan Ake this summer, with the centre-back cut to just 1/10 to join the Cherries.
Tabloid reports on Saturday suggested a £20m bid had been launched, but certain punters now seem convinced that the deal has legs, with several substantial bets placed on Monday morning.
The 22-year-old impressed during his loan spell at Dean Court last season, scoring three times in 10 appearances before being recalled early by Chelsea.
However, he went to on the make just the solitary start in the Blues’ title-winning campaign and is now 6/1 to remain at Stamford Bridge beyond the summer, with fellow centre-backs Virgil van Dijk (5/4) and Leonardo Bonucci (11/4) both linked with moves to west London.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are expected to announce Frank de Boer as their new manager on Monday afternoon.
0800: There's plenty of early gossip in this morning's Paper Talk including the latest on Alexandre Lacazette move to Arsenal but could Olivier Giroud be heading the opposite direction?
Lacazette is 1/5 with Sky Bet to make the move from Lyon to the Emirates with Giroud now an 11/4 shot to join the French outfit, although West Ham are 5/2 favourites to sign the striker.
Also, Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho looks like he could be the first target of Frank de Boer if the Dutchman takes the reins at Crystal Palace. Check out today's Paper Talk here.
