Sri Lanka v Bangladesh: Rain scuppers Dambulla ODI

Sri Lanka v Bangladesh second ODI (Dambulla)
No result - rain

Sri Lanka (49.5 overs) 311 (Mendis 102, Tharanga 65, Gunaratne 39)

Bangladesh lead three-match series 1-0

Kusal Mendis' maiden one-day international century helped Sri Lanka pile up 311 all out against Bangladesh only for rain in Dambulla to wipe out the remainder of the match.

The hosts, who lost the series opener by 90 runs at the weekend, must therefore win the final fixture of three on Saturday to earn a 1-1 draw.

Bangladesh might well have faced a tough task, in a country where no ODI team has yet successfully chased 300 or more - but they were saved the bother when bad weather moved in between innings.

Number three Mendis (102) hit nine fours and a six from 107 balls, sharing a century second-wicket stand with captain Upul Tharanga (65), before Bangladesh seamer Taskin Ahmed (four for 47) returned to finish the innings with a hat-trick.

But thanks to the rain, all individual contributions came to nought.
