SOMEKINDOFSTAR is getting on a bit at 11 but he’s fairly lightly raced for one of his age, and he’s more than capable of taking this on his first start since November, with the absence arguably a positive to his chances.
His full record after a 100+ day break reads 52143, and even when beaten on a couple of those occasions has run some of his better races on the figures, so catching him fresh is no bad thing at all.
He’s already a chase winner at Fakenham, having been successful here in 2022, and he does look to have been saved with something at this track in mind.
The booking of Brian Hughes gives us another positive clue as to his chances and with his favoured good ground to race on, a big run looks in order.
4:45 Fakenham
The jockey booking of Charlotte Jones for Baby Sham catches the eye - presumably booked when Seamus Mullins took a few up to Cartmel last week - as he does have a win around here from a mark a pound higher, and good ground is essential to his chances.
On a similar note, Lilly Pinchin was a C&D winner on STAR LEGEND last November and looks an equally interesting booking for this female riders’ race for James Owen.
He’s been running well on the Flat and did little wrong when sixth in the Chester Cup consolation race last time out, not getting the best of runs when he needed one but staying on strongly once he saw daylight.
He still looks nicely handicapped on his Flat form and having only had a handful of handicap hurdle starts for the red-hot James Owen, there’s probably more to come this summer if he’s kept to timber.
