Elenika would have been the selection for this had he by-passed an entry at Ludlow yesterday as last month's Wetherby third came against better company. But, in his expected absence, we'll come down on the side of bottom weight BILLY CUCKOO who didn't run at all badly behind Granville Island at Catterick and has a decent overall strike-rate. Clondaw Knight is probably open to further improvement having won at Kelso in November on his chase debut while Oh Crick is still capable of making his presence felt in this grade. Shadows Lengthen is back on a decent mark and could also figure with a clear round but Thunderstorm hasn't shown much over fences so far and King Spirit has plenty of weight.
King Spirit (IRE) 5-2 (11-4) Led to 3rd, remained close up, led again before 3 out, headed after 2 out, kept on same pace last, 2nd of 5, 6l behind Brick Red (10-12) at Plumpton 2m 1f nov chs (3) hvy in Jan.
Elenika (FR) 4-1fav (10-0) Tracked leaders, outpaced after 5 out, soon lost place, ridden to chase leaders 3 out, stayed on to take 3rd last, no impression, 3rd of 9, 9l behind Desert Cry (11-6) at Wetherby 2m hcp chs 0-145 (2) sft in Jan.
Billy Cuckoo (IRE) 9-2 (11-4) Chased leaders, ridden before last, kept on same pace, 3rd of 7, 6l behind Granville Island (11-12) at Catterick 2m 3f hcp chs 0-125 (3) hvy in Jan.
Di Kaprio (FR) 14-1 (11-4) Led, headed approaching 5th, soon weakened, 5th of 8, 43l behind Madness Light (11-3) at Uttoxeter 2m 4f hcp hdl 0-130 (3) hvy in Dec.
Clondaw Knight (IRE) 2-1fav (11-12) Mid-division, headway to go 2nd before 4 out, led before 3 out, clear before last, kept on well, won at Kelso 2m 1f nov hcp chs 0-110 (4) gs in Nov beating Suprise Vendor (10-7) by 4l, 11 ran.
Thunderstorm (IRE) 8-1 (10-9) Held up in rear, jumped left throughout, not fluent 1st, under pressure 4 out, soon weakened, moderate 4th, 4th of 7, 49l behind Loose Chips (11-3) at Kempton 2m 4f (3) sft in Dec.
Dashing George (IRE) 25-1 (11-5) Tracked leaders, hampered 3rd, went 2nd before 4th, weakened 2 out, 5th of 10, 23l behind Twoways (10-10) at Towcester 2m hcp hdl 0-120 (4) hvy in Jan.
Shadows Lengthen 14-1 (11-9) In rear, headway 4 out, one pace when fell 2 out, in a race won by Noble Legend (11-8) at Wetherby 2m 4f hcp chs 0-135 (3) sft in Dec, 9 ran.
