Strong Suit won this last year and finished behind stablemate LIBRANNO in the Group 2 Park Stakes at Doncaster last month. The latter had subsequent Group winner Penitent back in fifth on that occasion and is fancied to defy a penalty in this with most of his rivals having questions to answer. It's unlikely Fulbright will get ground fast enough to show his best and Irish 2000 Guineas third, Reply, has something to prove on the evidence of a couple of subsequent poor efforts. Sunday Times bounced back at a big price in the Sceptre Stakes at Doncaster but this is tougher and Scarf is also facing a more difficult task having won a Listed race at Newbury with Edinburgh Knight behind. 2010 winner Red Jazz is out of sorts and so is Fencing while Pearl Mix and Telwaar have plenty to find.
Fulbright 9-4fav (9-1) With leaders, ridden 2f out, soon lost place, no impression final furlong, 6th of 9, 8l behind Eton Forever (9-0) at Redcar 7f Listed stks 3yo (1) sft.
Red Jazz (USA) 20-1 (9-3) Chased leaders, ridden 2f out, weakened over 1f out, 7th of 9, 7l behind Lethal Force (8-12) at Newbury 7f Grp 2 (1) gf in Aug.
Arnold Lane (IRE) 12-1 (9-0) Raced stand side, mid-division, headway over 1f out, soon chasing leaders, stayed on under pressure closing stages, 3rd of 14, 4 1/2l behind Skilful (9-8) at Ascot 7f hcp (2) sft.
Fencing (USA) 12-1 (9-0) Held up, hampered entering final 3f, not recover, soon eased, 13th of 16, 26l behind Most Improved (9-0) at Royal Ascot 1m 3yo Grp 1 (1) gd in Jun.
Scarf (AUS) 7-1 (9-2) Made virtually all, brought field to near side, edged right over 1f out, kept on well, won at Newbury 7f Listed stks 3yo (1) gf in Sep beating Producer (9-2) by nk, 9 ran.
Reply (IRE) 16-1 (8-13) Raced alone far side, led 1f, chased winner until inside final 3f, weakened 2f out, soon behind, last of 12, 35l behind Mayson (9-5) at Newmarket 6f Grp 1 (1) hvy in Jul.
Libranno 16-1 (9-4) Tracked leaders and keen, headway to challenge over 1f out, led inside final furlong, kept on gamely, won at Doncaster 7f Grp 2 (1) gd in Sep beating Pastoral Player (9-4) by 1/2l, 8 ran.
Edinburgh Knight (IRE) 7-1 (9-2) Held up in last trio, headway over 2f out, keeping on when hampered over 1f out, no chance after, 8th of 9, 7l behind Scarf (9-2) at Newbury 7f Listed stks 3yo (1) gf in Sep.
Telwaar 33-1 (9-1) Held up towards rear, never involved, 19th of 22, 14l behind Ishvana (8-12) at Royal Ascot 7f 3yo Grp 3 (1) gd in Jun.
