HOMETOWN GLORY still ran well despite only managing fourth in better company at Lingfield last time. Brian Meehan's colt can return to winning ways in this as he'd earlier beaten subsequent winner and today's rival Lowther at the same track. The latter has decent claims and is preferred to Red Somerset who had Jack Who's He behind when second on his latest start. Stir Trader has been winning over shorter trips of late but Haftohaf failed to improve on his maiden win when losing at odds-on over 7f here three weeks ago. Buckland has plenty to find with the selection and is overlooked.
Lowther 7-4fav (9-2) Always prominent, chased winner inside final furlong, kept on well, 2nd of 7, 1 1/2l behind Loyalty (9-2) at Lingfield 1m hcp 0-85 (4) pol.
Stir Trader (IRE) 14-1 (8-12) Keen tracked leader until over 4f out, tracked leaders, ridden 2f out, ran on strongly to lead final strides, won at Lingfield 7f hcp 0-85 (4) pol in Dec beating Roy The Boy (8-13) by hd, 6 ran.
Haftohaf 4-6fav (9-7) Took keen hold tracked leading pair, went 2nd approaching final 2f, driven to challenge inside final furlong, not pace of winner final 120 yards, went 2nd towards finish, 2nd of 9, 2l behind Atlantis Crossing (9-6) at Kempton 7f 3yo hcp 0-75 (5) pol in Dec.
Buckland (IRE) 25-1 (8-5) Held up in last pair on inside, hampered and lost ground as pace lifted over 2f out, soon switched sharply left, ridden and ran on inside final furlong, took 3rd in closing stages, 3rd of 7, 3l behind Guest of Honour (9-1) at Kempton 1m hcp 0-85 (4) pol in Dec.
Hometown Glory 7-2 (8-7) Chased leaders, headway over 2f out, never able to challenge, 4th of 6, 1 1/2l behind Grey Mirage (8-9) at Lingfield 1m hcp 0-95 (3) pol in Dec.
Red Somerset (USA) 10-1 (9-3) In rear, headway over 1f out, chased winner inside final furlong, soon ridden, kept on and always held by winner, 2nd of 6, 2l behind Aquilonius (9-3) at Lingfield 1m hcp 0-85 (4) pol in Dec.
Jack Who's He (IRE) 11-4 (9-5) Dwelt, soon chased leaders, chased winner over 2f out until over 1f out, one pace, 3rd of 6, 4 1/2l behind Aquilonius (9-3) at Lingfield 1m hcp 0-85 (4) pol in Dec.
