Keke was the only tip in last week's column and duly landed a punt in the 5f handicap at Navan.

Eddie Lynam's speedy four-year-old was taken down early and dwelt at the start but made rapid headway, despite having plenty to do two-out. He ran on well to lead towards the finish and his style of racing will make the handicapper's task difficult. Keke can progress, especially when breaking faster.

Starshine Legend was seemingly well fancied for his handicap debut at Catterick last Saturday and won despite not handling the track and running green. The step up to 1m4f was ideal and I interviewed winning jockey Daniel Muscutt on Racing TV.

He revealed: "I was surprised how green he was and he's such a big horse that he didn't love the track."

The well treated son of Sea The Stars had an ideal position behind the leaders but was off the bridle over three-out and hung left when making headway over a furlong out. He ran on well to win nicely but will be so much more effective on a galloping course.

Fitted with cheekpieces for this turf debut on his first start since being gelded, Starshine Legend will be fitter and mentally improved after this first start in 81 days.

Across the card at Beverley, Aviation Time was desperately unfortunate when a fast-finishing third in the 5f Hilary Needler Trophy. Richard Hughes' quality juvenile was going well when repeatedly short of room after two-out. She lost ground towards rear a furlong out and kept on well in the final one hundred yards.

This was a super effort from a poor draw in stall ten and James Doyle said the filly "would have won going away with a clear run".

Aviation Time battled well to win at Kempton on debut and connections insisted she had taken a major step forward. A return to 6f in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot next week is her next target and the trip will be ideal.

Mecca's Symphony can build on her pleasing debut fifth in the 6f fillies' maiden at Carlisle on Monday. Michael Dods' daughter of Sergei Prokofiev was keen after leaving the stalls but settled behind the leaders from the bottom of the hill and ran on well under hand riding.

Her price rose from 20,000 guineas as a foal to 37,000 guineas as a yearling and she should stay further but has speed for this trip.

Eben Zaabeel qualified for a low rating when a close fourth in the 1m4f maiden at Salisbury on Tuesday. Stepping up from an extended 1m2f, the well bred son of Sea The Stars was outpaced and pushed along in midfield over three-out.

He rallied from two-out and switched sharply left before the furlong pole. The quality colt went fourth inside the final furlong and the formbook rightly noted: "Eyecatcher". Eben Zaabeel will be very interesting in middle-distance handicaps.

Looking ahead, New Image can continue his progression in the 7f handicap at York on Saturday. David O'Meara's talented horse showed what he can do granted decent luck when impressing over this trip at Musselburgh two weeks ago. Going easily over two-out before leading inside the final furlong, he won going away and looks ahead of the assessor.
