Marseille Open: Borna Coric and Fernando Verdasco beaten in straight sets in south of France


Second seed Borna Coric and fifth seed Fernando Verdasco both suffered straight sets defeats when being dumped out of the Marseille Open.

Coric, ranked 13th in the world, was defeated by tournament wild card Ugo Humbert 6-3 6-3 in 80 minutes, breaking the Croatian's serve three times, to secure a place in the tournament's quarter-finals.

World number 143 Matthias Bachinger, a qualifier for the tournament, beat Verdasco 6-4 6-3 to book his place in the last-eight.

David Goffin, ranked third, reached his first quarter-final of the ATP Tour season after coming through 6-2 6-3 over Frenchman Benoit Paire.

Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky beat Frenchman Gregoire Barrere 6-3 6-4 to go through to the next round.
