Dominic Thiem underlines French Open potential with Lyon victory

Dominic Thiem limbered up for Roland Garros by beating Gilles Simon to win the Lyon Open.

The Austrian world number eight dropped the first set but hit back in a second set tie-break which proved pivotal.

Thiem then raced away with the decider to secure a 3-6 7-6 (7/1) 6-1 victory.

The 24-year-old faces Ilya Ivashka of Belarus in the first round of next week's French Open, while home hope Simon meets Georgia's Nikoloz Basilashvili.

Thiem is 11/1 for a first grand slam title with Sky Bet, who offer 6/1 that he loses to favourite Rafael Nadal in the final.

Meanwhile, Marton Fucsovics landed the first title of his career by beating Peter Gojowczyk to win the Geneva Open.

The 26-year-old Hungarian broke the serve of his German opponent twice in each set to wrap up a comfortable 6-2 6-2 victory.
