Dominic Thiem beats John Millman in the German Tennis Championships

Austrian Dominic Thiem remains on course for his third clay court title of the season after victory over Australia's John Millman put him into the quarter-finals of the German Tennis Championships.

The top seed lost just three of his first-service points and cruised to a 6-2 6-2 victory in just over an hour in Hamburg to set up a meeting with Chile's Nicolas Jarry.

Third seed Pablo Carreno Busta is also into the last eight as opponent Aljaz Bedene retired with a hip injury with the score at 6-2 4-0.

Georgia's Nikoloz Basilashvili awaits in the next round after he saved five set points and recovered from 6-1 down in the first set tiebreak to beat 2013 finalist Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay 7-6 6-4.
