There are two Russians in the semi-finals of an ATP Masters tournament for the first time after victories for Daniil Medvedev and Karen Khachanov at the Rogers Cup in Montreal.
Eighth seed Medvedev has been in ruthless form this week and allowed second seed Dominic Thiem just four games, sweeping to a 6-3 6-1 victory.
Thiem played a part in his own downfall and blamed fatigue having travelled late to Canada after winning a title at home in Austria last week.
He said on atptour.com: "With all the travelling and short transition, two very tough matches yesterday and two days ago, I think the battery was empty today.
"I was not on my 100 per cent. This is just not enough in a quarter-finals of a Masters 1000, especially against a guy like Daniil, who is in a great shape and is playing amazing tennis."
Khachanov is back in the semi-finals for the second year in a row having lost to eventual champion Rafael Nadal in the last four in Toronto 12 months ago.
He proved too strong for third seed Alexander Zverev, the champion the last time the tournament was held in Montreal in 2017, winning 6-3 6-3 in an hour and 14 minutes.
Zverev again struggled on serve, with eight double faults contributing to three breaks for Khachanov.
Nadal also made it through to the last four, coming back from a set down against Fabio Fognini to prevail 2-6 6-1 6-2.
The Italian seventh seed won five games in a row en route to wrapping up the first set inside 39 minutes but the world number two took the remaining two sets - both in 37 minutes - to progress.
His opponent in the next round is still unknown - Gael Monfils was 30-0 up in the first game in the first set against Roberto Bautista Agut when play was suspended due to rain.
