Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares into US Open men's doubles quarters

Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares continued their fine form at the US Open with victory over Robin Haase and Matwe Middlekoop to reach the men's doubles quarter-finals.

Murray and Soares are yet to drop a set in three matches and survived some sticky moments in the first set to beat their Dutch opponents 7-6 (7/4) 6-4.

The fourth seeds, who won their first Masters title together in Cincinnati just before the tournament, claimed their second grand slam title here two years ago but have not made it past the last eight at any of the slams since.

Murray said: "We're playing well. We came through some difficult moments today.

"We went down 0-40 on Bruno's serve and we won some really long points to get through that game and then we played really well in the tie-break.

"The second set we were on top the whole way through, had chances to get the second break, didn't quite do it but we did a good job because it wasn't easy out there and they were coming out with some big shots."

They next face unseeded pair Radu Albot of Moldova and Tunisia's Malek Jaziri.

"That's grand slams," said Murray. "Draws always open up and teams get through that you don't expect, it happens every single time.

"They're obviously good singles players, they've beaten some good teams this tournament, so we'll have to be on it when we play them."

Murray ended a long day by reaching the mixed doubles semi-finals. The Scot and American Bethanie Mattek-Sands defeated Nadiia Kichenok and Wesley Koolhof 7-6 (7/5) 6-7 (6/8) 10-7.

Murray won his second consecutive mixed doubles title in New York last year with Martina Hingis, who was among the crowd on Louis Armstrong Stadium.

Dominic Inglot's chances in the men's doubles are over, though, after he and Croatian partner Franko Skugor lost 6-2 6-4 to Wimbledon champions Mike Bryan and Jack Sock.
