French Open: TV pundits deliver their views on Roland Garros 2017

We get the views of several TV pundits, including Mark Petchey, Jim Courier and Greg Rusedski, ahead of the 2017 French Open which gets under way on Sunday.

Barry Cowan (Sky Sports) on Andy Murray’s title chances

Coming into the French, I don't see him as someone who I think can win it, but that's not to say he can't. The first week is absolutely crucial. He's been under-cooked, whereas in the past, even if he scrapped through some matches, I think it helped him. Because he's had a lack of matches, I can't see him being able to continually dig deep in matches early on and then being in position to beat the best at the end of the event.

Peter Fleming (Sky Sports) on Murray and his coach Ivan Lendl

I don't think he (Murray) has lost his motivation because he still works hard. He had a rough period where he was sick and then injured, then lost some matches so he lost a bit of confidence, but I think he's still working hard. Lendl is just a no-nonsense guy and he gets right to the point and so although Andy may make excuses with other people, with Lendl it just doesn't wash. The hope is he will turn things around right now, but I can't believe Ivan is the golden one and it's not about Jamie Delgado either, it's about Andy and it's time to dig a little deep.

Greg Rusedski (Eurosport) on the Djokovic-Agassi link-up

They are two of the greatest returners in the history of the game. They are perfect match-up of personalities and styles. I think it will be great for the game of tennis. They’ve not had a catalogue of work yet. (Djokovic) is still on the building blocks with a new team around him and I expect him to take great strides. He needed to make a change and you saw an immediate impact in Rome where he was more passionate and got to take a step forward.

Mark Petchey (Sky Sports) on Rafael Nadal under Carlos Moya

I think Carlos Moya has done a great job. Uncle Toni has always been there and has been solid, but when you have been in a relationship as long as that in tennis maybe you look for things that aren't there and actually it's just doing what you did incredibly well at that same level and accepting the fact that some players like Novak Djokovic are going to make your life harder than others. But from Rafa this year we have seen a few more body serves, which is maybe a favourite of Carlos'. There seems a lot more of the old Rafa there in terms of the mindset and Moya has helped bring that back to him.

Jim Courier (ITV) on potential surprise packages

Dominic Thiem on the men's side - he has the tools and results from this year’s claycourt season to believe he can do it. In the women's singles, Kiki Mladenovic. She's an ascendant player with local support who could make a huge run or crash early under the pressure. Someone to watch for sure.

Greg Rusedski (Eurosport) on the women’s draw

There will be many players champing at the bit with no Serena there this year. Somebody who has never won a Slam before could win it – like (Rome winner) Elina Svitolina. Many must be thinking, with Serena out for a little while, ‘this is my chance to take advantage’. I don’t actually have one choice (for a potential winner). If Halep didn’t twist her ankle I would have made her favourite from the formlines but there are so many possibilities, especially with no Serena. I think there could be a massive surprise, like when Francesca Schiavone won (in 2010).
