Hungarian Open: Bedene upsets second seed Karlovic

Aljaz Bedene upset second seed Ivo Karlovic in the quarter-finals of the Hungarian Open for his 15th straight win.

The British number four broke the giant Croatian's serve early in both sets on his way to a 6-4 6-3 victory.

It continued the 27-year-old's sparkling run, with Bedene winning back-to-back titles on the second-tier Challenger Tour before coming through qualifying in Budapest.

Ranked outside the top 100 at the beginning of March, Bedene has climbed to 68 and is closing in on a return to the top 50.

He is through to his first ATP Tour semi-final since January 2016 and will face either fourth seed Fernando Verdasco or fellow qualifier Laslo Djere.
