World champion Mark Williams began the new season with a first-round victory over Ben Woollaston at the Riga Masters.

Welshman Williams, who surprised himself with his Crucible success in May and famously stripped naked for his post-final press conference, was a 4-2 winner over English cueman Woollaston at the tournament in Latvia.

Defending champion Ryan Day bowed out 4-3 to Ali Carter, while other first-round winners included Shaun Murphy, Neil Robertson, Graeme Dott and Mark Allen. Jimmy White lost 4-0 to Ricky Walden.
