Friday review

Greg Eden continued his remarkable scoring record with a third-successive hat-trick as leaders Castleford came from behind to beat bottom side Widnes 32-22 at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle.

On his 100th career appearance, Super League's leading scorer took his overall tally for the season to 24 tries in just 16 appearances.

Eden's scores proved vital as the Tigers came from 22-10 behind early in the second half to eke out a fifth-straight victory while condemning Widnes to a fifth-successive defeat.

Salford kept the pressure on Castleford with a hugely impressive 50-12 victory over Catalans Dragons on an emotionally-charged night at the AJ Bell Stadium.

The Red Devils offered fans free admission in exchange for a donation to the fund set up to help victims of the Manchester bomb attack on Monday.

A minute's silence was observed before kick-off while fans held up 'I Love MCR' posters and staged a round of applause in the 22nd minute in tribute to the 22 people killed in the blast only a few miles away at the Manchester Arena.

And as if scripted, Salford scored a try in the 22nd minute - with the try coming from the player in the number 22 shirt, Kris Welham, who was also named man of the match.

Salford went on to record their biggest ever win over the Dragons, scoring nine tries with Michael Dobson converting seven in an utterly dominant display.

Catalans, still without a coach following the sacking of Laurent Frayssinous on Monday, were the last team to beat Salford on Easter Monday - which was also their last win.

Matt Parcell scored a hat-trick to continue his stunning start to life at Headingley as Leeds moved up to thirdwith a 40-0 rout of Warrington.

The Australian hooker joined the Rhinos from NRL club Manly in the off-season and has been the driving force behind Leeds' much-improved campaign.

Parcell's 14th-minute opener and Liam Sutcliffe's try and two goals put Leeds in charge against the Wolves at the end of a scrappy first half that belied the ideal playing conditions.

The number nine added his second try just after the restart and then completed his hat-trick after Jamie Jones-Buchanan and Joel Moon had crossed to heap further misery on out-of-sorts Warrington.

Rob Burrow went over for a deserved try in the final few minutes as Leeds moved eight points clear of one of their traditional rivals for the Super League crown in style.

Leigh ended their eight-game losing streak in Super League and added to Hull's woes with a 26-22 win at the KCOM Stadium.

It had been 12 years since Leigh's last visit to the KCOM for a Super League fixture which ended 76-20 to the Black and Whites.

But the Centurions, despite their recent poor form, were in no mood for a repeat of that scoreline and added to the misery caused by Hull's Magic Weekend whitewash at the hands of St Helens.

Wakefield came from behind to snatch a 28-26 victory over Huddersfield to maintain their push for a top-four spot.

The rejuvenated Giants were on courses for a third win in four games when they led 26-22 with 10 minutes to go but Trinity winger Ben Jones-Bishop went over for his second try of the match - his 14th of the season - to tie the scores and replacement half-back Sam Williams kicked the difficult conversion to clinch a fifth successive win.

It was survival of the fittest in stifling conditions at the Beaumont Legal Stadium and Wakefield finished the stronger to just about deserve the spoils, despite another impressive performance from Huddersfield's Australian full-back Jake Mamo.

Thursday review

Two tries in the final quarter from centre Mark Percival ensured the honeymoon goes on for new St Helens coach Justin Holbrook as he clinched a dramatic 22-19 victory over arch rivals Wigan.

Wigan thought they had won it when a drop goal from the returning Thomas Leuluai edged them back in front nine minutes from the end of a pulsating encounter but Percival pounced for the winning try five  minutes later to send the bulk of the 13,138 crowd into raptures.

Coming off the back of a 45-0 rout of Hull at the Magic Weekend, just 48 hours after he arrived in the country, Australian Holbrook could hardly have made a better start to his reign as a head coach.
