Super League results

  • Salford 36-12 Hull KR
  • Warrington 16-10 Wigan

Saturday, February 24

  • Castleford 28-16 Hull FC
  • Catalans Dragons 14-16 Wakefield

Sunday, February 25

  • Widnes 23-6 Leeds

Sunday

Krisnan Inu scored two tries as Widnes took advantage of Leeds' injury woes to inflict more misery on the Rhinos at Halton Stadium.

Brian McDermott's side had lost on their previous three visits and they arrived on Sunday without 12 first team players following their trip Down Under for the World Club Challenge.

The depleted Rhinos produced a gutsy performance but Widnes eventually wore them down to earn their second win of the Super League season with a 23-6 success.

Joe Mellor put Widnes in front but Brad Dwyer darted over for his first try for Leeds to give the visitors a 6-4 half-time lead.

Inu went over and added two goals before Danny Craven's one-pointer ended the Rhinos' resistance.

Young hooker Danny Walker crossed and Inu scored his second to add gloss to the result and make it a weekend to forget for Super League's globetrotters following defeats for Wigan and Hull on their returns from Australia.

Saturday

Castleford showed a few glimpses of their sparkling 2017 form as they came from 8-0 down to beat Hull FC 28-18 in the Betfred Super League.

Skipper Michael Shenton scored two tries and could have had a hat-trick as the Tigers continued their recovery from their opening-round thrashing by St Helens.

Greg Minikin, Jake Webster and Mike McMeekan also grabbed tries for Castleford, while Hull's scores came from Marc Sneyd, Bureta Farimo and Mickey Paea.

Wakefield maintained their perfect start to the season after overturning a half-time deficit to pip Catalans Dragons 16-14 in Perpignan.

Trinity had beaten Hull KR in their season-opener and Salford two weeks ago but Benjamin Garcia's try plus a conversion and two penalties from Lucas Albert lifted Catalans into a 10-8 lead at the interval.

But David Fifita crossed the whitewash for Wakefield's third try, following first-half scores from Reece Lyne and Tom Johnstone, while Liam Finn's penalty and conversion meant Lewis Tierney's touchdown was ultimately scant consolation.

Friday

St Helens continued their perfect start to the Super League season with a 26-12 win at Huddersfield as Jermaine McGillvary was kept quiet on his first appearance since the World Cup final.

Saints opened their campaign with back-to-back victories over Castleford and Catalans Dragons and the two-week break for the World Club Challenge did little to halt their early momentum.

Huddersfield more than matched Saints in the first half but went into the break 14-6 behind after conceding soft tries to Jon Wilkin and James Roby either side of Danny Brough's effort.

Zeb Taia and Mark Percival crossed after the restart and St Helens cruised to a third straight success despite Oliver Roberts' powerful finish.

Warrington centre Ryan Atkins scored his 174th Super League try to help Warrington inflict a first defeat of the season on Wigan.

Atkins' 55th-minute touchdown took him ahead of former Great Britain stand-off Leon Pryce into fifth place in the list of Super League's all-time tryscorers and clinched a thoroughly deserved 16-10 victory.

Wigan coach Shaun Wane insisted pre-match that he would not be using jet lag as an excuse for a defeat but his side lacked sparkle four days after arriving back from their two-week trip to New South Wales.

Tom Lineham scored Warrington's other try, while Liam Marshall and Tony Clubb went over for Wigan.

Salford picked up their first points of the season with a comfortable 36-12 win over Hull KR at the AJ Bell Stadium.

Full-back Gareth O'Brien, the man whose drop goal condemned Hull KR to relegation in 2016, was again a central figure for Salford, scoring 16 points and also providing two assists as the Red Devils recorded their biggest ever Super League win over Rovers.

Winger Niall Evalds also scored two late tries for Salford as he marked his 100th career appearance in style.

Junior Sa'u, Jake Bibby and Rob Lui also bagged tries for Salford.

It was an unhappy return for Hull KR coach Tim Sheens who spent two years at Salford alongside current Salford coach Ian Watson.

Thomas Minns and Adam Quinlan scored Hull KR's tries.
