St Helens' players paid their tributes to Violet-Grace Youens ahead of facing Salford on Thursday.

The four-year-old girl died in hospital in her mother's arms on Saturday after she was struck by a suspected stolen black Ford Fiesta while walking through St Helens, Merseyside, on Friday.

Aidan McAteer, who had been sought by police after the incident, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Merseyside Police said the man would be questioned by detectives on Thursday.

As their own tribute, the St Helens players prepared for the match at the AJ Bell stadium wearing purple shirts with 'Violet-Grace 4' written on the back.

Saints have said they will also wear the shirts ahead of next Friday's home game with Huddersfield.
