Some fair form point-to-point form but well down the field on bumper debut at Exeter last month (2m1f, soft; 25-1); may do better for jumping test now.

Warwick bumper winner on testing ground in December 2017, some good efforts over timber last season (second twice at this track over 2m3½f/2m7½f) before being outclassed in Aintree Grade 1. Off since but sets the standard back here.

Modest form in bumpers, was making seasonal return/hurdles debut here last month over 2m3½f when tailed off as a 125-1 chance. Hard to be enthusiastic on evidence to date.

Ran into an easy winner at Leicester (2m4½f, heavy; 9-2) last month on rules/hurdles bow, but well clear of the remainder and this point-to-point winner should have no concern over this longer journey; in the mix.

Outran odds of 100-1 in Champion Bumper at Cheltenham in March and has shaped well both starts since returning for hurdles career. 15L second of three finishers in Warwick maiden (2m5f, heavy; 8-1) last month and needs extra to open account.

Betting

Forecast

Kingsplace (6/4), Port Of Mars (2/1), Some Detail (2/1), Mr Woolley (40/1), Enormouse (100/1)

Verdict

Port Of Mars showed plenty to work with second behind a stablemate at Leicester last month, and was a bit unlucky in the run. There should be more to come under the champion jockey but if KINGPLACE is able to reproduce the best of last season's efforts on this first start for 287 days then he's entitled to be taking this prize. His trainer is in good form and he's just about favoured. Some Detail can lead home the remainder.
