- Corrie Cup Handicap Chase (Class 3)
- 3m 1f 125y, Soft (Good to Soft in places)
- 8 Runners
- Surface: Turf
Useful chaser when on song and has now dropped back to his last wining mark after a series of pretty moderate efforts; possible better ground here may suit so could bounce back for a yard going along nicely this term.
Capable of classy handicap form on his day, placed in the valuable Badger Ales chase last year but didn't fare so well this time around when sixth; conditions ideal here and only 1lb higher than last win, so dangerous to rule this course winner out.
Showed some good form at the start of the calendar year, winning a little event at Leicester with plenty in hand and then a solid third to useful Captain Cattistock at Exeter; off the boil after that but may strip fitter for latest run. Chance.
Hard to knock his close fifth to Walt in a competitive event at Taunton last time out, held every chance at the last but run out of it late; hard to win with though, and he's not getting that much help from the handicapper either.
Blows a bit hot and cold, won a Plumpton handicap (from 4lb lower) back in March but couldn't follow that up at Kelso when last seen, only highlighting his inconsistency; not seen out since April and likely to need the run.
Twice a winner in the spring and looked right back to that sort of form when just touched off by a resurgent Antunes at Ffos Las last time; that has earned him a 5lb rise but he's unexposed over fences and will surely do better again.
Has talent but is equally happy not to showcase it most of the time, although in his defence does have some legitimate excuses for a couple of efforts this year; trip and ground fine again, so if putting best foot forward, isn't discounted.
Second chase start today and didn't run at all badly on his first at Chepstow, a bad mid-race mistake halting his progress; needs to cut that out, but has scope for better and cannot be ruled out if taking another step forward.
