Beat Shady McCoy by ½L when gamely taking this contest under Cameron Noble last year (on good to soft); has struggled in competitive races since returning from a five-month break; is also declared to race at Musselburgh on Monday.
Appreciates cut underfoot; 3lb higher than when a decisive winner at Haydock (6f, heavy) in June; was always towards the rear (16th of 22) at York on Saturday; turned out quickly as one of three declared runners for David O'Meara.
No win since scoring at odds of 25-1 at York (6f, soft) in the summer of 2017 - beat Muntadab by a neck; started 6-1f when runner-up in the Ayr Silver Cup last September (2018); disappointing last of 16 on sole start this season.
With John Gosden when winning a Class 2 Ascot handicap (7f, good to soft) from a mark of 107 in September 2017; sold for 34,000gns in November 2018, and now 0-6 (regressive) for David O'Meara in 2019; the handicapper is giving him every chance.
Hit the target from a similar mark at Redcar (7f, good) in June; flattered to deceive when favourite at Ascot (7f, soft) a couple of weeks ago and was surprisingly turned out again there just 24 hours later; perfectly fine on this ground.
Mudlark; twice a winner over this trip at Haydock (heavy) in recent times, including when driven out to beat Sir Busker by ¾L (penultimate); 4lb higher in a stronger race; should be firmly on the premises despite a two-month absence from racing.
