Still a maiden on turf after 22 runs and although his mark has dropped in this sphere, not showing enough to suggest he can break his duck.

Overcame a tardy start to score at Carlisle (5f, good to soft) in early August but two runs since over the same trip less compelling and tries 7f for the first time here.

Eight-time winner with four coming on turf and running on fourth at Newcastle latest over this trip suggested current mark can be within range. Solid each-way option here.

Broke his maiden at the 12th attempt when victorious in a 7f C&D handicap (good-to-firm) two starts back and his second of 17 at Lingfield latest off a 5lb higher mark was further evidence he is now on the up. Looks the one to beat.

Dead-heat C&D winner in May only found one too good here latest when second of 12 off this mark on good to firm. No obvious reason he won't again make a bold bid.

Has shown all of her best form at Carlisle (6f), climbing in the weights since landing back-to-back handicaps there in July; has a tendency to be very slow away from the gates and that often does for her winning chance; trip?

16-race maiden made some late headway over this trip at Carlisle when eighth of 15 but the excuses are starting to wear thin now.

Sits 5lb above his last winning mark and hasn't appeared to be in the same fettle in his most recent couple of starts; on a more positive note, has very few worries with regards track or ground conditions.

Still a maiden after 14 starts but turned his form around with a neck second in 1m Hamilton handicap on his latest start. Raised 4lb for that effort here so life gets tougher. Withdrawn with a vet's cert as recently as Thursday.

Broke his duck at the 32nd attempt when edging out Be Bold by a neck over 1m½f at Hamilton(good) in July; 2lb higher and was well held at Carlisle latest after a poor start.

Had been getting closer with third over 7½f at Beverley on good to firm two starts back her best effort yet in handicaps but she flopped at Thirsk latest so must bounce back now.

Forecast

Muhallab (15/8), Cliff Bay (5/1), Robben Rainbow (6/1), The Thorny Rose (8/1), Parion (9/1), Be Proud (10/1), Tarnhelm (10/1), Duke Cosimo (16/1), My Valentino (18/1), Exchequer (20/1), Moonlit Sands (25/1), Temple of Wonder (33/1)

Verdict

It has taken a while but it seems MUHALLAB is now progressing really well late on in his three-year-old campaign and after a second latest he is taken to go one better back at the scene of his finest hour. Fellow C&D winner Robben Rainbow is rated the biggest danger as he seems to save his best form for here although The Thorny Rose is also worth considering now after a career best latest and with this step up to 7f expected to suit.
  1. Muhallab
  2. Robben Rainbow
  3. The Thorny Rose
