Appeared to have gone into reverse following a rejuvenated spell when winning his first two starts for this yard. That theory was shown to be wrong when he burst back to form last time; up 6lb for that 15L win, this looks harder.

Continues to be held back by his rather sloppy jumping and failed to cope with the big step up in grade last time (Welsh Grand National). Capable when he gets it right though but his jumping remains a minus in tests like this; tongue tied first-time.

Turned in much his best career effort last time out at Wincanton; possibly helped by positive ride plus a first-time tongue tie. Jumped better than usual and should remain competitive but does have to prove himself off a 9lb higher mark.

Still to convince that he really needs this sort of trip and whilst he looks on a fair mark this test is just too far for him. Proved to be that way last time at Exeter (3m) where he faded late on hampered by mistakes; worth trying at shorter.

Back from break\wind surgery last time at a track (Ascot) he's gone well at before but offered little. Starting to look well handicapped (5lb below last winning mark) but needs to be coaxed back to that sort of form before he could be of interest.

Useful over fences (4-21) but returns from an elongated break having run well-below par when last sighted. Starts out back off his last winning mark but this dual course winner (once over C&D) is likely to need this outing; best watched.

Not seen over fences since finishing last of three in a Huntingdon novice (April 2015); has won over fences. Kept to hurdles when seen since then (only run 10 times) he has won off 2lb higher over hurdles; ran well when last seen; market to guide.

Forecast

More Buck's (3/1), Like The Sound (7/2), Salmanazar (4/1), Looksnowtlikebrian (4/1), Duke Des Champs (15/2), Roc D'Apsis (10/1), Quite By Chance (12/1)

Verdict

A complex little heat with More Buck’s heading the weights and looking rejuvenated of late although he’s never won off a mark this high. Like The Sound is another who needs to prove himself off this mark while there are doubts about Duke Des Champs (stamina) and Looksnowtmikebrian (jumping). Therefore SALMANAZAR is given the opportunity to score back over fences for the first time for ages having run a very sound race over hurdles a Bangor last time – he’s well handicapped to do so.
  1. Salmanazar

  3. Duke Des Champs
