Experienced and consistent performer is 5-20 on turf and looks sure to go close in this on the back of near miss in Haydock conditions event over this trip on firm ground last time.

2016 Stewards' Cup winner (6f, good to firm) who didn't manage to get back to that level of form last year, did go close at this level though. Closely matched with Mythmaker on penultimate Haydock run, though well held in Listed race there since.

Group 2 winner at Newmarket over this trip last year but has disappointed in his three starts this term, latest when dropped into this at Newbury. Needs to prove he's trained on as a three-year-old now.

Two wins from four starts last year, beaten favourite in Listed York race (6f, good) in October on final start and ran to similar level in third at Newbury on reappearance (Cardsharp behind). Potential for better and yard in excellent form (4-14).

Sir Prancealot filly was a decent second in Carlisle handicap (6f, good) on reappearance. Potential for doing better this season but this looks plenty tough.

Forecast

Shabaaby (11/8), Cardsharp (3/1), Mythmaker (4/1), Dancing Star (9/2), Mokarris (6/1), Lady Dancealot (16/1)

Verdict

Lots with potential but perhaps the safest option will be MYTHMAKER, who has routinely gone close in this grade and tends to give his best each time he runs. After a sound Haydock second last time (just held), he can give this a bold sight. Shabaaby is laden with potential for doing better for the in-form Owen Burrows yard while Dancing Star has the form to lay down a claim. Both Mokarris and Card Sharp would be big players on their juvenile form.
