NEW! A 'WS' icon means the horse has had wind surgery to improve its breathing since its last run.

50,000 gns yearling who has yet to make any significant impact. Always in the rear on handicap debut at Southwell (1m) latest, he's dropped 3lb, and switched to a more conventional racing surface. Still an entire (at present).

Doesn't score all that often, but handles this surface and has performed competitively of late, including when beaten 3L by Dellaguista over the extended mile at Wolverhampton on his penultimate start in early December.

Runner up over C&D (maiden) on her final start for Hugo Palmer in mid October, and has raced over longer trips since. Disappointing in the main, but one can't say that the handicapper isn't giving her a chance.

On a long losing run, and remains winless in 12 attempts on synthetics. Beaten 1L by Limoncino over C&D earlier in the month, and whilst he should be thereabouts once more, looks likely to find a couple stronger.

Effective over a range of trips (7f to 1m1f), but this is probably his optimum these days as he demonstrated when winning at Kempton (November) and Chelmsford (December). 4lb higher than for his last success, but handles Tapeta well enough.

59-3OR: 51CD
8/1
Her sole victory from 33 starts came over C&D in November 2016, and she's had plenty of chances at this track since. However, in theory, she should be able to make hay off this much reduced mark. Habitual dweller.

Given a break since his last start in mid October when beaten 9L by Champagne Rules (over 1m4f). Hard to establish his best trip, but has been competitive off similar marks to this one over 1m2f here in the past.

A 16 race maiden who has knocked at the door this winter without quite threatening to force it open. Upped in trip following placed efforts here over 7f during November.

A 13 race maiden with a very low rating. Badly out of sorts in the majority of her races since mid summer, but arrives for her fifth AW start (Newcastle debut) off a three month break.

Has managed to beat just a single rival in five starts on turf (6f to 1m2f), and appears frightfully devoid of ability. AW debut from out of the handicap.

Verdict

A race in which punters are best advised to give the widest possibly berth. However, whilst a number of those horses towards the foot of the weights can't possibly win, one of the others will be unlikely to find a better opportunity to score. Ingleby Angel should be thereabouts, whilst Wardy is potentially the least exposed runner in the race, and a rare entry at Newcastle for Peter Chapple-Hyam. However, whilst she comes with a wealth warning firmly attached, small stakes are permitted for LOZAH, who really ought to make her presence felt over C&D from this much reduced mark eventually.
