Duke of York Stakes return date for sprinter Harry Angel

Harry Angel has been pencilled in to make his seasonal reappearance in the Duke of York Stakes on May 16.

Clive Cox's sprinter enjoyed a fantastic three-year-old campaign, beating his elders to claim successive Group Ones in the July Cup at Newmarket and the Sprint Cup at Haydock.

The Godolphin-owned colt was runner-up in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot and rounded off his season by finishing fourth in the British Champions Sprint at the Berkshire track in October.

A return to the Royal meeting for the Diamond Jubilee is top of Cox's agenda, but he is keen to get a run in beforehand and York's Dante meeting has been identified as a suitable starting point.

"He's very well. He's wintered very well indeed. He's a stronger horse than he was last year, which is very exciting," the trainer told At The Races.

"For the three-year-olds it's tough in any generation, so to have another winter on him has done him the world of good.

"Obviously Royal Ascot will be the plan and hopefully his prep race will be the Duke of York. He'll have a penalty there, but it's a chance to have a run before Royal Ascot and then obviously there's the Group One Pattern, as we had last year.

"I couldn't be more pleased with him, I'm really over the moon and I'm delighted Sheikh Mohammed has kept him in training for another year. I'm very proud to have him on our hands."
