Clon Coulis can gain handsome compensation for a narrow defeat at Royal Ascot by winning the Weatherbys TBA Pipalong Stakes for the second year running at Pontefract.

It was only by the minimum margin of a nose that the David Barron-trained mare was beaten by Afaak in the Royal Hunt Cup, one of the toughest and most competitive handicaps in the calendar.

Her victory in this Listed race over a mile 12 months ago was her first of five so far and she should put up a stern defence of her crown at the West Yorkshire track.

The return to Pontefract can see Ventura Ocean regain winning ways in the King Richard III Handicap.

Richard Fahey's three-year-old won first time out this season at the track and was then saved for a valuable pot at York.

He failed to run his race there and on his return to the Knavesmire two weeks later but this represents a distinct drop in class. The handicapper is slowly relenting and he can build on his early promise.

Mecca's Gift can defy a 6lb penalty for trainer Michael Dods in the Atlas Leisure Homes Ltd Handicap.

Blinkered for the first time, the three-year-old filly bolted up by seven lengths at Hamilton to get off the mark on her eighth start. She should be hard to beat if in similar form.

Edgar Allan Poe stayed on powerfully to win over this 10 furlongs last week and can follow up for trainer Rebecca Bastiman in the Pontefract Squash And Leisure Apprentice Handicap.

Francophilia bounced back from a disappointing effort at Ripon last month when landing a smooth success on Newcastle's all-weather surface and can follow up in the Green People Handicap at Brighton.

Running back on turf should not pose a problem for Mark Johnston's filly, as she got off the mark at Lingfield in May.

Princess Florence won for the first time at the 15th attempt over this seven furlongs recently and her trainer John Ryan is striking while the iron is hot in the MarathonBet Festival Of Racing 7th-9th August Handicap.

Street Poet can complete a five-week Wolverhampton hat-trick in the Come To Madness - 30th August Handicap at the Dunstall Park track.

Her two wins have been by narrow margins which has meant the assessor has had to restrict her rise in the ratings to just 5lb.

The six-year-old gelding, trained by Michael Herrington, may be stepping up a little in grade, but that is unlikely to stop her winning again.
